The Quinta's location and history

The property is within 90 minutes of Faro's International airport and 3 hrs from Lisbon's, while the local station is only 15 minutes away.

Its precise location is shown with this link.

It sits in a secluded position on the shores of one of the largest freshwater lakes in Portugal.

The present owner bought the property in 1987 and it is since that year that the property has been developed.

Designed and built as a private residence, since 1987 the Quinta has operated as a holiday destination for singles, couples, families and groups of various persuasions, and has won for itself an international reputation as such with over 500 "Excellent" reviews on Tripadvisor, and it is in their "Hall of Fame" for having received their Certificate of Excellence for five consecutive years, and in 2026 it received their "Best of the Best" award for the third consecutive year.

While still operating as a general holiday destination for individual travellers and families, the Quinta has, over the last ten years, increasingly found its core market to be groups.

Being in a beautifully unspoiled area with an abundant wildlife, these groups were, from the turn of the century until the early '20s, primarily Nature-orientated, and especially Birdwatching as the present owner is one of Portugal's leading Birdwatching Guides with a website specifically targetted for this activity.

However, with the construction of the Yoga Shala, the Yurt, the Watsu Pool and the Sauna, the Quinta now finds an increasing number of Retreat facilitators booking the Quinta in its entirety to host Retreats of a multitude of genres, from Art to Yoga to Wellness and Medicine to Company Offsite - in fact any Retreat or Group that needs peace and quiet and total seclusion, and it has another separate dedicated website promoting this aspect of its operation.

The Quinta's grounds, construction and expansion has been fuelled since its inception by the funds generated from its own activities and it has never received a grant or any financial assistance of any kind from either the EU or the Portuguese state.

It is with a profound sadness that the present owner now finds himself wishing to sell the Quinta due to his approaching retirement and his wish to spend his remaining years with more time for his family.
